When you get a look at your nipple grafts with the thick dressings removed, and you knew it wouldn’t be pretty, but you weren’t expecting the indented-pit-of-pepperoni-just-about-to-mold look. The PA says it looks good and healthy for this healing stage, and you trust her, but you can’t help freak out a bit inside. Good thing there are no nerve endings there (and admittedly you only looked at one nipple before deciding to forego looking at the other until tomorrow when you have to change the new, thinner, adhesive dressings yourself. And again the following day. And the day after that…). Healing is slow, helpful, and weird.
